Upcoming Game Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (October 6th 2017)

Thank you very much! I'm glad people like them.
And yeah, I wanted to draw them in a way that captures the personality of the original but also doesn't look out of place in a modern game.

If someone was here who's familiar with 3DS Romhacking and knows how to include stuff like this, I'd be happy to work with them!
I don't have any idea how to do it. I've never even looked into 3DS emulation.
But if someone knows how...
If only I knew someone in real life who could help you out on this romhack game? :(

Psycho Kamek and Fanfare Toad sprites are done!

There.
Did that entirely break the style of the game? No.
It's just a goofy expression.
It doesn't hurt your brand, Nintendo.

Look who decided to say hello...

I hope someone rips the Star Stache Smash sprites soon...

I'll make an animation out of him... tomorrow. I need sleep. :gdevastated:

Here's a little fun fact.
There's a room in Beanbean Castle called the "Castle Gardens".
However, it seems that in the origional game, nobody noticed that there was a path to it. So, the remake actually added an NPC talking about it.
I mean, it's not an arrow or a rug, so some people who don't talk to NPCs will still miss it. But hey, it's an interesting little change.

Did you check it not being in the original?

They also replaced the 4 books lying on the ground with 4 other pea NPCs. Not sure if they say the same thing tho...
I guess making one single book sprite was just too much work.

Also, the Beanbean Outskirts area, you know, the green fields. For whatever reason, Minion Quest refers to this area as "Beanbean Kingdom". Which makes no sense, with the entire game taking place in the Beanbean Kingdom. Why not just use the Beanbean Outskirts area? That's always been the official name of the location...

A few complaints I have about the gameplay, now that I've played it:
I wish it was faster to go in and out of battles. When I just wanna farm beans I don't wanna have to wait for big, flashy transitions to play through. Also, they now show dropped items in those presents, which each have to open up seperately, instead of the drops just being listed at the end of the battle.
(I also wish Lakipeas would throw their spinies faster. I just wanna stand under them and insta-kill their spinies over and over but they take their sweet-ass time, compared to the GBA version, which was much more relentless in that aspect.)

Speaking of slowness and beans, brewing coffee takes so long. Now that the prices have all been lowered drastically, you are gonna be brewing a lot more coffees. But they still have to play the brewing animation every time, then you gotta press A to advance it for some reason, then Mario has to hold it above his head as if you had gotten the coffee for the first time, then they take you out of the menu, then you have to talk to the guy again, listen to his spiel, klick yes, and THEN you can select another coffee.
Why not just let me skip all the brew-haw-haw and just give me the dang coffee? The game is usually so adamant about letting you go through things quickly, so why not let me skip the animations?
They are cool the first time through, and I wouldn't want them gone completely, but I just want the option to skip them.
I have like 90 friggin Chuckle beans and just wanna make a ton of Cuckoccinos out of them but I don't wanna have to sit through the same animation 20 times and more.

It sometimes feels like that in the battles too. Like when you're pulling off Bro moves. In the original game, the moves had a pretty nice, fast pace.
But the new versions are often needlessly slow.
For example, in the original, the Bros would do a little waving animation at the beginning of Splash Bros and Bounce Bros.
But in the 3DS version that little wave is now 3 or 4 times as long and the Bros have to go "Let's a goooooo!" every time, instead of just executing the move.

Or look at the advanced Knockback bros. In the original you could press A right after mario got squashed, which made it really satisfying to pull off.
Now you have to wait for the button prompt to come up, which has messed me up too many times.
That, and Mario flies through the air much slower in ball form. He doesn't need to be that slow when he's flying back to Luigi.

And for some reason, they added another waving animation to the beginning of Thunder Bros, which really doesn't need to be there, since you're already waiting for Weegee's thunder to charge up.

But on the other hand, Cyclone Bros starts up immediately, throwing the button prompt right on your face. So I'm getting mixed messages here.

Inconsistency has been a common gripe in this remake.

That's because you actually earn items in the middle of the battle, and can use them before the battle ends.
That's not the case for beans. They shouldn't interrupt the flow of battle. And even the usable items could just be shown on the bottom screen without slowing you down.
After the twentieth pair of Random Slack or Muddy Pants or whatever, I really don't need the game to show it to me every time. Maybe if it's the first time I'm getting it, that would be fine. But not over and over and over.

You know what would've been cool? Being able to buy Hoo Beans, now that farming them takes so much longer, but you still need a ton of them to make any worthwhile coffees. The game showers you in coins anyway so why not let me spend a couple thousand coins on green beans instead of making me wait for Lakipeas to pick up the slack.

Speaking of being showered in coins, now that enemies bleed coins more severely than Queen Midas during that time of the month, regular coin blocks like
Bros_Block.PNG
,
Rally_block.png
and
Random_Block.png
have been turned utterly useless, since they still only give you singular coins.
So why should I spend minutes of my time waiting for a
Rally_block.png
to slowly float back and forth if it's only gonna give me like 60 coins and I already made several million coins by battling regular schmoes? And I can't even do the trick anymore where you can hit a
Rally_block.png
multiple times in a row with the same Bro, to speed up the process.

Several million? I hope you're exaggerating?

Sure, but it feels like millions sometimes. Right now I have over 18k, and that's AFTER spending a shit-ton on max mushrooms and max syrups I didn't even need.
Wow. So the cap of 9999 has been removed, evidently. That's a good point you're raising, then. Especially the
Rally_block.png
block used to yield quite a substantial amount of coins, and if I messed up early, I would feel quite bad.

Yeah, now it's more like picking up crumbs while your plate is still full of ...something that makes crumbs.
