Serious question

DILLON: I Dated A Democrat

This article brought up an interesting question. How comfortable or willing would you guys be about dating someone with different values than you?
Yeeeesh... I honestly don't know. I don't think I'd be too much of either, because I can't afford to build a relationship with someone when my every little opinion could potentially cause a rift between us. No fuckin' thank you.

Everyone is different, to some people values and principles mean everything to them, to others theyre a minor part of life.

Ive had alot of people react in anger to the title of that article without actually looking at the article and knowing what its actually about. Its not an article putting down a democrat, its a story about a democrat and republican bonding over their support of Israel, but realizing that their principles are just too different for them to be together romantically, so theyre just friends.

I think its interesting. I have some values that I cant even consider letting go of for someone. Like, example, Im pro life, and I dont think I could be with someone who strongly felt that aborting an unborn child is a human right. I have SOME values Id be willing to look past though.

Honestly I don't know why politics matter so much here in the U.S. that everyone needs to bring them up.

Like ffs I want to talk about the stuff I'm interested in, not society. Which is why I'd never date someone who's super political.

Politics has a major impact on the life of others, so its an important issue.

Not that you are wrong in how you feel or anything, if you feel that you would want to be with someone who has no interest in important issues then thats fine, you're totally allowed to feel that way.

Things like principles and values are important to me, though not necessarily so important that I couldn't be with someone romantically if we didn't totally agree, depending on the situation.

I don't do relationships but if I were to do one again, can't say I could under these circumstances. They'd most certainly have to be supportive of certain things and the chances of that if they were rightwing for example would be very low. I'm also atheist so I have no interest, long term relationship wise, with people into religion.
