Super Smash Bros 4 and Wario; What We Know

Something tells me they didn't really have Wario World that much in mind when giving Wario his moves for Smash. He got a bunch of punches and everything, but I don't think they were directly thinking about Wario World when designing his moves.

I think it's been mentioned already, but Wario can fart in Mario Strikers Charged. (Heck, every other character has their own voice clips devoted to calling him out for that!)

Some people say his headbutt (Up-Smash) is from Wario World but I can't recall it. The move animation itself definitely looks familiar, or looks like something that'd be in a Wario game.

There's a move that kinda looks like that but I think he's using his fist or elbow, not his head.
I think I know what move you're talking about. The third hit that knocks big enemies or bosses out, allowing them to be picked up?

He normally shouts "EXCELLENT!" or "WONDERFUL!" after executing it.

Why does everyone always forget the ground pound? I mean it's only in literally every Wario Land. He even has it in Mario Land 2.

Never forgotten, has it in both Smash games and every game that isn't WarioWare(including most sports spinoff).

I like how they worked it in in a different way than the other Ground Pounds. We already had the Bowser Bomb and Yoshi Bomb, we did not need another special like those. Making it a throw was great.

That's a pretty sad excuse to leave out a character's signature moves. (And I mean literally sad.)
That's like leaving out Shulk's sword because there are already tons of sword fighters in the game.

EXCEPT HE DIDN'T. Wario has his Ground Pound. Are you trying to be difficult?

It's in his moveset. It's like everyone who plays smash only cares about Special and couldn't give a damn about the rest about their moveset.

Should I start to whine about how Link should represent Zelda 2 more and how it's not okay that his Up Thrust and Down Thrust aren't his Up and Down Specials? No, because they are represented anyway, excellently by Up Air and Down Air.

Brawl Wario was great. He was only really missing one thing, and that was Power Throw.

It's in his moveset.
Technically. He technically has his ground pound. ...except he doesn't pound the ground with it. He pounds a grabbed enemy. You can't use it the way you would in the game. The esthetic of the move is there but not the function. He technically also had his charge attack....except he didn't charge with it (unless you wanna count moving an inch as charging). Again, the esthetic is there but not the function.
But you know what? It DID have the function there when you were Wario-Man which was actually really friggin awesome. I loved that!

But..... now he doesn't even have that anymore.

I'll say this tho, overall, his moves in Brawl weren't completely awful. The biggest problem I have with it is the Waft. Mainly for the flanderization aspect. The other moves are ok and I do like playing with him.
If they made a few adjustments like replacing his dash attack with his charge attack (a functional version) and maybe adding the piledriver as a throw (and replacing the Waft with.... anything, really) then I would be totally ok with it.

A lot of my frustration comes from different places, not just his moveset. Like, why doesn't he have a victory animation inspired by Wario Land? Over the course of the series he does so many different poses, animations, quotes, etc. which would fit perfectly! ...but instead we get one where he smells his farts. :SAnnoyed: It's the mountains of missed potential that bothers me. It also doesn't help that there's no Wario Land stage, stage music, trophy, sticker, assist trophy to be found in the entire game.
And then when they finally added a Wario Land song in Smash 4...... it wasn't even a remix.

Don't even get me started on the fact they removed a bunch of his outfits.
Rest in peace WL3 color scheme.

But don't let any of that bother you. If you think it's a great moveset, GOOD! I'm happy for you! Don't let the fact that I'm not happy with it bother you. At the end of the day it's just an opinion. Not everyone can have as much love for the Wario Land series as me. I would've liked it differently. So what? I'm just some guy.
It's not like my opinion could ever influence Sakurai's decisions. If he wants to make Wario all about farts in his game, who am I to argue? If he wants to remove a character's trademark move why should it bother anyone else?

I'll just go and play Project M. They have a great moveset for Wario. :SHappy: ...oh wait, I have a european Wii...

I'm gonna be honest, I actually dislike PM Wario. Once visited a guy with an American Wii(imported) and tried out PM, and I hated playing PM Wario(while Brawl Wario is possibly my favorite playable charater in the series, despite me disliking Brawl on the whole).

I actually felt he was also not nearly as well represented as he should be. They turned what was a mix of Land/World/Ware into a boring take on Warioland Wario(if you are gonna go full Warioland, at least include the "reaction powerups like Falt Wario Spring Wario and such").

we did not need another special like those
Shoutouts to Roy, Corrin, and Bayonetta as well.

I'm gonna have to adamantly disagree with you here. The only moves they outright replace are the spinning downwards headbutt for d-air, replacing it with his signature ground pound, the backwards headbutt for b-air with a more functional and satisfying backwards punch, the bike with the shoulder bash, the f-smash with a kick (due to the shoulder bash's presence already), his butt bump b-throw (b-throw is now the Wild Swing-Ding, taken from his f-throw) with the Power Throw, and the laggy breakdance of disappointment that is his d-smash with his Earthshake Punch. Except for the kick and the punch, both of which both look and function nicely for his "power" trait, all of these are things lifted directly from Wario Land and function as they do in those games, and none of what they replace really represented his appearances in WarioWare anyway besides the Wario Bike. The reason he doesn't have transformations is quite simply because he already functions perfectly, so it really isn't necessary to make him transform for specific attacks when his moves already reference the series plenty.

If it was up to me I'd split him into 2 characters the way they did with Samus and Zero Suit Samus (and Zelda and Sheik and the 2 Pits and Marios and ...someone else I think). Biker Wario to represent WW with WW moves and Classic Wario to represent Classic Wario games with Classic Wario moves.
