What's a series you like/love but you don't want to admit it?

I can't agree more, There's just a certain magic with the older seasons that the newer seasons just don't capture
Now I'll say this right now before going into a wall of text, the modern cgi incarnation is not bad (In fact, it's been pretty great as of S17) and compared to a lot of computer modernizations like it, it still at least kept faithful to the original style and characters and in some cases, expand upon it due to not having the technical limitations that models engines and sets bring. (Unlike poor Bob the Builder) but I can't deny that there was definitely something lost in the process. which is like you said, that "raw organic quality". the fact that Britt and her team took hours on end, painstakingly recreating the original awdry characters and locations is very extremely impressive and is sadly not something that you can see nowadays.

And the fact that these models are actually real and actually did the stuff you see on television only makes it more magical and that alone combined with the fact that you can actually see them in action

and the fact that the characters themselves were actually based off of real life steam engines just gives the classic series a certain and unique magic that no amount of great CGI can capture.
And combine the above with a fucking legendary soundtrack by Campbell and O'Donnell (Seriously it has no right to be as good as it is.)

and the storybook format with narration by Ringo Star and George Carlin and you have a very magical TV show that's unlike really anything else.

One that can truly captures the imagination.

Sorry for the wall of text BTW

And yes they still make hand painted metal models.
But they're in a much different form then they use to be and plastic has become a much bigger thing now compared to the days of old. but yes, they still do them at least.

Terrific post, TB! No need to apologise, I enjoy scaling walls of text (I'm more guilty of building walls here than anyone else).
The way Britt and her crew tailored the whole world of Sodor reminds me of how I used to build little landscapes, roads, tunnels, etc., outside in the dirt and sand.
It really was the perfect program to instill that hands-on approach, and make you want to get your hands dirty creating. Very inspiring stuff.

I really like me some Spongebob though i hardly talk about in recent years since around season 6 or so it was widely considered to have turned to crap. Though now i'm willing to be more open about it since ever since Sponge out of Water people like it again due to good ol' Hillenburg returning.

As with Mythbusters, I still like Spongebob even though I'm not following the series anymore. The old episodes, especially those made before the first movie have a certain sense of humour and charm that somehow got lost over time.

Well you'd really enjoy Sponge out of Water and Se 9 Ep22 on wards since Hillenburg returned so the excellent writing from the old days is back. whether or not you like the new art style its up to you. I think the HD quality and revised intro aren't as good as the old ones but the stories and jokes are as great as ever.
I really wish it didn't go through a rough period though since i know many fans completely gave up on the show. I can't say i blame you for falling out of it. I almost did too.

Although I have no problem in admitting I love the first show of the Powerpuff girls, I must say I hate to then reply that I also love it's anime counterpart, the Powerpuff girls Z. This is because of the terrible english port most people may know of. The Japan original is much better as it sets the right mood throughout.

I thought the Mythbusters finally packed it in a year or two ago? Or are they still active together in some small capacity? Could've sworn I watched a grand finale or breakup episode.

Revisiting this thread, I will say say I am often reluctant to divulge what kinds of games I play to less game-savvy acquaintances. Not due to embarrassment but just because it more often than not leads to blank stares. Same goes for my taste in music.

I think it's impossible for me to contribute to this thread, as my tastes are so eclectic. For every soft and cuddly thing I like, there's a hard, gnarly whatnot waiting just around the corner. I don't try to nurture any kind of specific image.

I enjoy watching star trek. My mom and a friend of mine are big fans, and I enjoy it too. But its another one of those shows I keep quiet about. I'm not into the kinda image people think of when they think of like star trek fans. Like I feel like it's a show the fanbase takes too seriously, and consider themselves like deep intellectual types because they like the show. Kinda like radiohead fans. Like yeah the show sometimes gets into some sciency stuff that only someone who really has an interest in such things will understand, but you don't HAVE to understand such things to enjoy the show. Its completely possible for someone not all that interested in science and technology to enjoy the show. I wouldnt wanna be pumped intothat category of people, the kind that take themselves too seriously and all that, its just an interesting show.

I'm sure glad the 3rd Wario Bro isn't around to make a lewd innuendo out of this. I do set myself up pretty easily, don't I? Heheheheheheh...
Darn it i wasn't paying much attention to the thread to notice but since you bring it up i'll redeem myself.

This very much reminds me of all those doujins of my favourite characters. One second i think i'm reading a fanfic of some kawaii moe characters then suddenly i see a huge pingas from out of nowhere. Saw a Kana Kamui hentai once and boy did i have to bleach my eyes after that. :wurgh:

My job here is now done :)

Funny some one said Star Trek in fact a friend of mines was talking to me about it, and I've been very interested in getting into it. The series with Captain Picard seems to have a lot of neat character development as well which is what really got me interested. Not sure if you'd be ok with saying more about Star Trek I'm still just beginning atm but I am interested as well, in all honesty when it comes to " fandoms " or what you like it's better to just well stick to what you like and it doesn't really matter what anyone says since that kind of assumption doesn't really amount to much.

A couple of years back, in 2013 if I remember correctly, a show aired on Disney Channel called Crash and Bernstein. The show revolved about a boy who got a purple, muppet-like talking puppet for his birthday.
Although many disliked the show, I actually enjoyed it, but I never dared to admit this.

Oh, next gen is great yeah, is the one with picard. If i were to recomend a series to you, Id tell you to watch deep space nine, though : p Its my favorite, it focuses on a space station instead of a ship. And the story revolves around conflict between different species of aliens. The story of ds9 is more exciting and energetic than the other star trek series.

Next generation is cool too, a little slower, but it also has great characters and fun stories. Its definitely a close second for me : p I think youd like ds9 better though, haha.
