Thoughts on Wario's Woods?

I have to say I really enjoy how messed up of a character concept Fauster from the NES version is, his japanese name Akuman is a play on Akuma, which can be translated as demon or devil and not only does he have the looks for it:

but there is also the KC/Bombom Comics story based on Wario's Woods, that has a ton of fun with the idea of Fauster being Satan (including a moment that's essentially exorcism) :

So Wario got the Marioverse equivalent of Satan to work under him and Toad was able to kill (or defeat) said Marioverse equivalent of Satan, that's both badass and fucked up.

If Wario was summoning the devil, then who was the guy with the bucket?

By the way this isn't the first time when Wario was dealing with the devil:

Did they allowed this disguise in NoA?

All that satanic imagery... And remember that when you spin Ashley's record really fast she says "I have granted the kids to hell"? I think we may have just uncovered a conspiracy, the Wario series is clearly an Illuminati plot to bring kids to Satan.

Ah, Wario's Woods, I actually played this a few times when I saw it on collections of emulated NES games on other people's consoles and handhelds throughout my life.

Although I never got far into it, as I self-admittedly didn't put much effort into actually learning the game's mechanics and was just dicking around, reading up on this thread makes me eager to actually give this game a try again. I like a couple of puzzle games, and while this game is pretty much overlooked (wasn't it also thanks to the NES version being released at the end of the NES' game library as the DYKG video on Wario pointed out?) I can definitely see how this game has it's fans.

Wario's annoyed face as he walks away when his time's up and has to swap out with Birdo in the SNES version's still amusing to me though. :)

I always liked Wario's cast of cronies in this game. Shame they have vanished into the void of forgotten Mario characters along with such classics as Prince Pine, the cast of SMRPG and that pink Donkey Kong Jr. that was player 2 in Donkey Kong Jr. Math. Remember that guy?

Have only played the NES game and it's definitely a fun experience. It isn't like other puzzle games or " Tetris " styled one as so to say. Really liked how it challenges you by having Wario pop up here and again. Are there any differences between the NES and SNES version? I know the music seemed to have changed entirely but are there gameplay differences or anything? Never played the SNES version.

Wario's Woods is my all-time favourite "falling block" puzzle game (both NES and SNES versions). Nothing else comes close for me.

@Metal There were quite a few differences, but I can't remember all of them....
In the NES version there were special boss battles where you had to line up bombs to drain a health bar. The bosses were only found in ROUND GAME: Game Type B.

In the SNES version there was a VS. COMPUTER mode where you competed against a marathon of Wario's weird minions. This mode had three standard difficulties (Easy, Normal, Hard) and a secret unlockable SUPER-HARD mode.

There were also other differences like how you could lift and carry the coloured crystals in the SNES version, but in the NES version they were too heavy to move. The SNES version also had other environments besides the woods (like mountains and caverns).

He isn't as forgotten as you may think. He even has a bit of a following if you will.

Controls good, I just kinda... suck at it. lol

I started with the SNES one then played the NES on one NES Remix 2, it kinda felt like the NES version was better but it's been too many years I could just be remembering wrong.

The SNES version had better gameplay than the NES. More buttons meant more convenient inputs, with easier, alternative ways to kick objects etc. The SNES one also allowed you more freedom, like being able to lift and maneuver the diamonds that destroy all monsters of a specific colour.

I talked about it before a couple of years ago, though nobody seemed to notice, but does anyone else find it odd how the Pal version of NES Wario's Woods had a couple of songs changed? Compare the two Round Game themes for instances:

Granted I actually really love the Pal songs, but I can't help but wonder why it happened.

I love the SNES game and its great for its multiplayer buuuuuut if i wanna play a multiplayer puzzle game on SNES i'll go with the Kirby Puyo game.

As a native of the PAL kingdom, I find it annoying that when people upload PAL specific music, they tend to ignore the original speed/tempo of the song, and just upload it running at NTSC speed. That's not how it works, folks.
