Why does this remind me of House of the Rising Sun more than it does remind me of the original song from Kirby Superstar?

In all seriousness though, this cover, and especially some of those organ parts really make this song come to mind.
bro, this is almost verbatim what you said about the WL4 cover I did of Revenge of Meta Knight's credits. i had to check the date on your post because I thought I accidentally opened an old e-mail.

The song is based on House of the Rising Sun, of course it sounds like that. I think I even told you that last time, too.

What I meant is that your cover of this is closer to (i.e. reminds me more of) House of the Rising Sun than the one in Kirby Superstar is.
Sorry, I should've used different wording here. I was quite tired when I wrote that, so maybe that's why I didn't realise the fault.

"V-very nice!" :drcrygor:

But you missed the perfect opportunity to make the thumbnail something like this

"A wild WARIO appears!"
"What do you do?"
  • What?
  • Wah
  • Hah!
  • Nah.
as a spoof of the Dungeon Dilemma microgame.
Well, sure, but I would probably do that with a "Dungeon Dilemma in the style of Mother" mix-- Mother doesn't really work that way, and one wishes to be authentic. That's a good idea, though. ...If I do make that, I'll be sure to steal it.

Did they get inspiration from:

Maybe...
WayForward Technologies drew tons of inspiration from, among other series, Wario Land for their Shantae series, particulary the serie's first installment on the GBC, so it might be not too far-fetched that they looked beyond Wario Land into Nintendo series as a source of inspiration.

Jake "Virt" Kaufman, a freelance composer who worked on the Shantae series until Seven Sirens, its most recent game, also composed the lion's share of the songs in Shovel Knight, in which there are even several musical references to the Shantae series.

Given this, it might very well be possible, but I think that in this case, it's most likely a coincidence.

Here is one from a whole Game Boy album I just finished, full of Wario-ified Christmas songs! Since there's a Wario Land 2 level called "Up On The Rooftop", I knew I had to riff on it for the Santa song "Up On The Housetop". I worked the main Wario leitmotifs into a lot of the songs I did, but this is one of the few tracks in the album that are directly based on specific Wario tracks.

A test for this system of plugins I have in place which aims to recreate how WL4 sounds coming through VisualBoyAdvance.
I'm getting reeeeaaally close, now.
