  • Anyone else have modded versions that they actually liked way more than the official game?

This might be the hardest agree I ever dropped lol! I totally don't vibe with this type of game either. I do enjoy Undertale and Deltarune a bit but that's more due to the gameplay being a bit fun rather than the theming or story tbh. Things like Omori, Celeste, etc. I really am not interested in at all. Not because I don't relate to it but on the contrary, because I don't like dramatizing and romanticizing my struggles. Like sure, you can some metal illness, neurodivergency themes in it, but when it's too central of a theme.

This is especially true because most developer who are making games like this do struggle with those issues but haven't exactly figured them out correctly, so sometimes I feel like the depiction of mental illness etc. in those media are more dangerous than anything. And I know some of those games have disclaimer to not play if you are dealing with things like depression (e.g. Omori) but let's be honest here, those people are the exact demographic for the game.

I yapped a bit there lol, but this is just something I wanted to talk about for a long time I didn't see where it could fit.

    Ditto on everything, bro!

I still like Undertale, but I've moved on from Deltarune. I never really enjoyed it as much as Undertale or the Mother series when I first played it anyways.

But if the RIBBIT team does a chapter 2, or even winds up making their own game entirely, you can count on me playing it. Hell, if they make their own game and put it up on Steam, I'll buy it day one.

Also feel free to rant about Omori here all you want. I fucking HATE that game!

Never played RIBBIT, might have to give it a try if it still works on the current version. I still want to play the full Deltarune, I actually hesitated to get it over AntonBlast but ultimately decided to get the latter because I vibe with platformers a lot more than RPGs.

I haven't actually played Omori but I did spoil myself the whole game because it intrigued me, I would play it just so I can say I did but the gameplay doesn't seem fun... at all. Never played Mother either, I'm just not an RPG guy. I'm sure it's good if it inspired so many games but it's just not my type of game. Celeste has at least the plus of being a platformer, however it just seemed like one of those games that is hard for the sake of being hard rather and having fun not because the design is good but because you were able to finish a Kaizo level after 30K tries so I didn't play it either... plus I feel the story is even cheesier than the aforementioned games so yeah... I may be autistic but I'm not into this lol.

All of this rant to say I'd rather a game about an alcoholic getting his beers stolen by the devil or a stressed middle-aged pizzaiyolo rather than a game about depression and OCD... I chose STEM subjects for my studies, I don't feel like spending 25 hours experiencing the negative effects of daydreaming to escape your reality through speech boxes, I have my real life for that lol.

Oh and same goes for animes as well, I'm not watching Evangelion or A Silent Voice, I can't even finish JJK and Death Note.
Crazy, If F-Zero gets a new game, Wario Land officially becomes Nintendo’s most neglected franchise :wl1sad:

Does F-Zero 99 count? It was pretty cool, but isn't it just the first game but with 99 players?

Star Fox got a game in 2016 so we can already rule that out.

It's wild how many indie games Wario has inspired.

Feel like we've almost beaten the Mother series at this point.

Yeah, I might not be the biggest fan of WL3 but I really like the ideas the game has. So much so, it's the main inspiration for the game I'm making.

And kudos to you for going a different way. Just outta curiosity, what didn't you like about WL3? And what mechanics are you adding from it, into your game?

I don't really dislike the game completely either but I find it a bit sluggish and confusing at times. The reactions placed just to waste your time are also frustrating to me. I still had fun playing it though and I do intend to try it again someday.

The mechanics I'm adding is the fact that every "Star" (equivalent to Stars in SM64 or Shines Sprites in Sunshine) will give a new ability which will enable you to collect more stars. I originally wanted to implement a reaction system but I fear it'll make the moveset a bit bloated. I'll see what'll I'll do when I get there.
