  • Good grief seeing posts about Super Mario Land 1 and 2 online makes me cringe. Saw someone legitimately say the former was a 'failure', and others act like it sold worse than Super Mario Galaxy.

As someone who loves both games, statistically speaking, both Mario Land 1 and 2 outsold either Galaxy game.

As someone who dislikes both games, I don't really see the necessity to hate on games so much to the point you genuinely make up fake statics lol. You can just say you don't like Super Mario Land because it's not very fun to control and leave it at that.

I don't get it either. I like the Mario Land games and I like the Mario Galaxy games.

But I guess it could also be that people didn't grow up with the older games and assume all of them sold worse than they did. It's probably common for people to think that the titles from 64 onwards are somehow the best selling ones.

Am I crazy or is October way too early to put up Christmas decorations? Because that's what this town did...

They're selling eggnog where I'm at. Now, I love me some fucking eggnog, but it seems a bit early. Guess I can't complain that much, but still.
God YouTube is so dull nowadays. Once in a blue moon I'll get some amazing project or documentary suggested, but usually it's just... nothingness. The same generic formula following slop found everywhere else online now

Yeah, that's why I have my recommendations off and almost exclusively watch videos from my subscribed channels.
Damn, I hate to sound too negative, but I do often question what my future is.

The future is uncertain, but I hope wherever it takes us, it's a good place. I may be speaking to optimistically though.
God the internet is so boring nowadays. I go on social media and it's just so... samey. How are people this repetitive? How do they enjoy this content?

My advice to anyone who wants to get their account approved more quickly is to either have your name based on a famous fictional character (like a Wario series one), or set a unique avatar.

Instructions unclear, I used a four letter username that has somehow not been taken in the twelve years this site has been up and had to reach out on Discord because the email wouldn't send
If there's one thing I've learnt over the last few years, it's that pretty much everyone responsible for running a large website is the worst possible person to run such a large site.

Social media is obvious here (*looks at Musk, Zuckerberg, etc), but wikis, forums, subreddits, etc seem like great examples too.

If I ever make a decent living again, I'm setting up replacements for a lot of websites.
So, Reddit is login only for old Reddit now. Hopefully people use forums like this one again.

Today, I was browsing Reddit using the mobile browser. It stopped letting me scroll unless I got the app.
Gonna be blunt, I've always found it kinda weird how many people seem so obsessed about getting credited for things ripped from games. Like, you didn't make it. Shouldn't the original company or developer get the credit instead?

If anyone wants to use anything I ripped from Wario Land 4 in their own projects, or any footage I recorded for YouTube, you don't need to ask or give credit.

I moreso agree. On one hand I like to commend people as a courtesy who did a bit of work to get something that I'm using for free... on the other hand, sprite ripping is strictly a nonprofit hobby, and it is monumentally easier to rip/recreate preexisting material than it is to say, draw something original in the style of another game (i.e. customs).
Personally I wouldn't demand confirmation or credit if I ripped sprites either.

Yeah, true. I ripped like one thing one time iirc I did say credit would be appreciated but not needed because I usually give credit when using ripped sprites but yeah maybe I shouldn't have asked for it at all.

Also it is the reason I haven't released the source code for my fangame lol, I didn't note the ripper of the sprites I used and have to get them before releasing the thing.

I never credited any of them as a teenager because I knew I would never release the tiny games I made using the assets. They also weren't serious and just sort of memes where I used Hotel Mario sound effects lol.
I'm looking back at old articles and videos I posted and... what do you mean it's been over a decade now? What do you mean my game development project has been going over 13 years?

Where has the time even gone?
Have to be honest, I feel like my existence just causes more problems than it's worth. I feel my friends would be better off without me, sorry.

You probably are traversing a very difficult period where everything seems black but these are your feelings talking, trust me. I'm also going through a phase where I said such things and did things I really regret but I managed to get professional help and recover slightly for now. Hopefully, you will be able to see things more clearly. Stay safe.
