Mario Kart 8 SUCKS (and wii is awesome!)

I always thought Rock Rock Mountain was itself a dull concept for a track. I mean, it looked nice enough, but a lot of it didn't feel all that Mario like or interesting. The pipes were the only 'Mario' aspect there.

Disagree all you want but my top 3 Mario Kart games are Mario Kart 8, Double Dash and Super Circuit.

Mario Kart 8 is just all around better in every way, if you can forget the coin item.
MK Double Dash was fun and unique, with a fast and bouncy feel, filled with the craziness of that era. (Reminds me of the feel you get from WarioWare and Wario World, just awesome!)
MK Super Circuit was the pinnacle of retro Mario Kart (I call retro SMK, MK64 and this one, Double Dash is too different), took what was good about both previous titles and put them together with charm and a overall better feel. It was also portable.

Now, the other titles are awesome too, I'd consider Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 in this list. However, I find both of those titles to be a bit bland compared to those 3. Specially Mario Kart 7, which like Mario Kart DS, where pretty forgettable.

It's called Alpine pass in Europe.

I know. We got some interesting names. Wario's Galleon, Melody Motorway, Piranha Plant Pipeway... even the Wuhu Island Loop and Mountain Loop names felt more interesting to me.

Only terrible one was 'Koopa City'. I mean, really? Neo Bowser City at least sounds like the badass Neo Bowser Castle areas in Mario & Luigi. Koopa City sounds like it's from the Super Mario Bros Super Show.

Nobody here will probably agree, but the only Mario Kart games I ever loved were the original three. I prefer the classic pipe-frame go karts and the tight, clean, basic roster. I hate filling up games with too many random or guest characters. The general flavour and style the series went in (starting with Double Dash) is just not my bag.

I just don't agree on MK64. It's so overrated.

It comes with the history. At the time MK64 was a great leap forward in the genre of kart racers. It set a new standard for multiplayer/party racing games and people just adored the Battle Mode. But you weren't the only one to dislike the game. The kart racers that came out soon after drew a line between some fans (games like Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing).

I guess it's one of those things that were "revolutionary" at the time but down the line are no longer impressive. With that, the flaws also become more prominent.

Mario Kart 64 aged like shit in my opinion. While Super Mario Kart has also aged badly compared to later installments, it has it's own certain charm to it. (Maybe it's the early installment weirdness of it all.) But Mario Kart 64 not only looks terrible by today's standards. but it looks terrible compared to other kart racing games at the time, like Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing. The controls are slippery as shit, the sprites look terrible today, the tracks are terribly designed, the AI is fucking bullshit, (Where do think the term Rubberband AI came from?) It looks bland and boring as hell, and It's just not a pleasant game to go back to. Okay it's still a fun game, and the music is definitely amazing, but it's definitely aged to a point to where it's not as good as it used to be. (This is coming from someone who has no nostalgia with the game.)

Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye were undoubtedly the two most popular multiplayer games of the N64 era. Insanely popular and highly influential within their respective genres. And yet, due to their antiquity today, both of them are considered "unplayable" by many kart racing/shooter fans.

Okay I will admit, I was definitely a bit too harsh on the game, Because ultimately, it's still a fun game to play and go back to in the end. But I will say that it definitely has not aged well at all and that time was not at all kind to this game. (Though very few games from that era have really aged well.) To be honest though, the Classic Mario Kart trilogy has definitely seen better days, as both Double Dash and DS drastically changed the core mechanics of the Mario Kart series so much as it's gotten to a point to where it's really difficult now to go back to the Classic Trilogy. (Especially SMK and MK64.)

My favorites have always been MKDS and MK7, the controls just feel so much tighter for some reason. The console games since Double Dash feel really 'floaty' to me, like I'll hit a tiny bump in the road while I'm drifting or something and it will just send me flying off the track. And personally I don't like the crazy zero-gravity tracks in MK8 because it's hard to see what's coming up in the road-- I'll sometimes smash into a wall because I can't tell which direction the road is turning.

I havent played Mario Kart since my brothers moved on and I havent had anyone to play them with : p (Also I could not find Double Dash at all ever, I tried to find it too)

I always really liked MK64, though. Even playing it alone was fun for me, I liked the simple and pretty racer game it was. My favorite was always the battle mode though : p Even my older sister and her friends would play that with us on occasion, and she was like an older teen when I was still a kid so that was pretty cool : p

I like Diddy Kong Racing more though : p Wish Rare continued with that one.

EDIT cuz dont wanna keep double posting-

I have played Double Dash with CMV a few years back, and while Id agree that I liked the simple versions on SNES and N64 Id say that I really liked DD too : p It was cute and simple too, with just the pairing thing being added.

And for the Goldeneye and MK64 thing, thats all just a technology thing. Like alot of old NES games would be thought of as "unplayable" by many of todays gamers, but that doesnt mean theyre "bad", at the time they were amazing games, but these newer gamers started with titles released AFTER those games, so now to them those games seem rougher.
I have seen this often with people who started off on their love for LOZ with Twilight Princess, like every single one of them that I have met hates OoT even though when you break it down its like an OoT remake but wolf : p
