She has a distinct design and is actually an interesting character in The Thousand Year Door. Doesn't get much character in other appearances, but considering she's otherwise relegated to Captain Toad and spinoffs, that's not surprising.

I'm a fan of the Toads and even I will say that I can't stand the generic Paper Toads, that we have been stuck with since Sticker Star, no personality and wimpy as fuck.

That's something I generally don't like with Nintendo's current usage of the species, especially how they refuse to try and make the main Toad a more distinct character, they had something going with Captain Toad, only to turn around and say they aren't the same and then later go back and say ''wait, they are the same after all'', Nintendo just can't commit themselves to actually change a character a bit, even if it would be beneficial for the character to have Toad go Captain full time.

Generic Paper Toads are just the worst. Can you imagine if they decided to have only Goomba's as enemies.

"Toad" is a colossal clusterfuck as it is. I quote from another forum:

You have the "main" Red Toad who wears the blue shirt, you have the "side" Red Toad who wears the red shirt and presumably became Captain Toad, you have the playable Blue Toad from SMB2/SM3DW(?)/NSMBW(???), you have the glasses-wearing Blue Toad from the Captain's gang who I assume isn't the same as the playable one(s)...

...How did Yoshi get so lucky? I mean yeah, there's no undeniable proof that the green playable Yoshi (or his kid) is always the same, but at least there's one design to associate all of the various "Yoshi" feats with.

Actually it's not that complicated for the most part.

Whenever there is a singular, particulary prominent red Toad we are pretty much let to assume that he is the ''main'' one, with games like Super Mario RPG, Super Princess Peach and Super Paper Mario making the existence of a main one very explicit, it's really no different then it is with Yoshi or Birdo.

There are times where he wears a red vest, such as Sunshine, where the manual confirms him as the main one and the Baseball games, where he is given special prominence that the other Toad colors never get, is shown to be on bad terms with Wario (Wario's Woods) and is shown with the other main characters, despite not being a team captain on the contrary games like the first Paper Mario where there are many red Toads, without a single specific one that sticks out don't feature the ''main'' one.

In those cases the situation is very clear and easy to digest, the Captain Toad situation on the other hand is a different story, since the idea of him not being the ''main'' onehinges on the idea that the blue Toad in 3D World is the main one, which contardicts every way the character has been depicted as in the past and no, he was never canonicly blue in Mario 2, those were just color limitations. Couple that with the Captain getting Toadette as a partner, just like Toad, only to have a Miiverse interview declare that Toad is not the Captain and follow that with Mario Maker saying they are the same after all and you have a recipe for a disaster, everything before that wasn't nearly as bad.

I like to think the Blue Toad in SM3DW is basically the one from the NSMB games from Wii and onward, as it would kind of make sense to a degree. Whatever happened to Yellow Toad is beyond me, maybe he got demoted or something. :V

Also, While definently not as hated as others as I don't exactly hate the character in their respective home series, but when it comes to Smash Bros. Melee and really just Melee only, Jigglypuff feels completely broken. Kinda shows that as good as Melee's physics were, you can have too much of a good thing - and said good thing will cause problems. :/

Maybe I should consider myself lucky as that was the only Smash Tourney I ever played in and after that, I never went to one again. I don't want to know what facing a S ranked Fox feels like.
