Sega in particular is a company I don't get with this.Off the subject, This may sound odd but I'm always confused of how Nintendo, Sega and Capcom get boycotted. ((And don't get me wrong, I think they deserve some flack for some of the recent stuff they did like Paper Mario : Color Splash for instance.))
IMO I feel like they handle their franchises much better than Nintendo does in the terms of creative expression. They let fan projects and movies thrive. They don't care that Sonic is mocked universally on the web and they're ok with the person who runs the twitter to have an equal balance of Sonic memes and serious posts.
Their customer service is also pretty cool. A while back I had some glitches with Sonic Dash on an old phone, and even though someone first copied and pasted stuff I had already read on their support site before I even shot them an email, someone else took control and personally apologized for the situation. They couldn't figure out a resolution for the glitch, but I just appreciated that they at least tried to fix the situation. I went back and forth with that person for a couple of days, so it left me with a good experience.
I think too people love to hate on Sega because the Sonic games on the Genesis and Adventure era on Dreamcast were the high points of the series to the majority of people, and them having left that behind rustled the nostalgic jimmies. It sucks because I think it's not all Sega's fault. Sonic just doesn't translate well to 3D and that's not Sega's doing, that's just the way the industry curved.
Going back to the Sega vs. Nintendo argument, I just appreciate that Sega is still trying new things with Sonic even though they don't do so well. They get the "you tried" star. Nintendo feels very copy-pasty to me, especially with new Mario games.
But yeah Sega isn't anywhere near as bad as other companies (like Capcom).
