Unpopular Video Game Opinions

Off the subject, This may sound odd but I'm always confused of how Nintendo, Sega and Capcom get boycotted. ((And don't get me wrong, I think they deserve some flack for some of the recent stuff they did like Paper Mario : Color Splash for instance.))
Sega in particular is a company I don't get with this.

IMO I feel like they handle their franchises much better than Nintendo does in the terms of creative expression. They let fan projects and movies thrive. They don't care that Sonic is mocked universally on the web and they're ok with the person who runs the twitter to have an equal balance of Sonic memes and serious posts.

Their customer service is also pretty cool. A while back I had some glitches with Sonic Dash on an old phone, and even though someone first copied and pasted stuff I had already read on their support site before I even shot them an email, someone else took control and personally apologized for the situation. They couldn't figure out a resolution for the glitch, but I just appreciated that they at least tried to fix the situation. I went back and forth with that person for a couple of days, so it left me with a good experience.

I think too people love to hate on Sega because the Sonic games on the Genesis and Adventure era on Dreamcast were the high points of the series to the majority of people, and them having left that behind rustled the nostalgic jimmies. It sucks because I think it's not all Sega's fault. Sonic just doesn't translate well to 3D and that's not Sega's doing, that's just the way the industry curved.

Going back to the Sega vs. Nintendo argument, I just appreciate that Sega is still trying new things with Sonic even though they don't do so well. They get the "you tried" star. Nintendo feels very copy-pasty to me, especially with new Mario games.

But yeah Sega isn't anywhere near as bad as other companies (like Capcom).

There's plenty to criticize about Sega's recent practices (their handling of the western release of Phantasy Star Online 2, for example, is completely indefensible), but whenever you see someone say "Sega hasn't made a good gaem since they went third party", that person might as well say "I can't name a Sega gane that's not Sonic", because that's what they mean 100% of the time

I think the EVIDENCE will tell you otherwise. Everything sega makes is sonic.

This is completely valid and understandable. I haven't played the newer Phantasy Star games but that makes me sad to hear they won't release it.

I googled the phrase "reasons to hate sega" and I ended up on a reverse console hacking site that essentially had most of its members falling into that demographic you said. You weren't kidding. Most people focused on examples like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 instead of looking at the company as a whole objectively.

I had read about it before but when I wrote my post this morning, I had forgotten about their Shining Force 3 video takedown incident from a while back, so I should put less emphasis on what I said about them supporting videos, fan content, etc.

sonic is japanesse though.
It's funny he is because it's said influences from Michael Jackson, Santa Claus, and Bill Clinton all went into creating Sonic in some shape or form.

Why the Japanese chose western pop culture icons and (future at the time of his creation) president of the US to influence his creation is beyond me... besides the desire to make loads of money.

I think the thought process is that certain Western stuff tends to be popular in Japan and so he would have a very large appeal all over but it ended up not being the case.

I'd say it depends on what circles you travel in. You'll find a lot of rampant fanboysim on the web, but in between it you'll see people disgruntled with Nintendo as well.

Again, I still think Modern Namco is far worse than Modern Sega or Nintendo combined. Pac-Man's dark age isn't ending anytime soon, that's for sure.

"Also "Klonoa"?, "Splatterhouse"?, "Mr. Driller"?, "Mappy"?, "Dig Dug"??? Lol, who cares about those games we have DANK SOULS which is said to be the BEST GAME EVAR!!!"

meme souls is the new mascot now son.

i really liked their old games, especially galaga, but that is because they're so old school.
wait, there is 3d pac man now!?

I kinda like Tingle. He's a character who breaks pretty much every convention there is. He looks and talks like a silly person, but he's not usually as light a character as that indicates. In Wind Waker, you first meet him in prison for theft, and he convinces you to break him out. Thereafter, he forces you to pay him thousands of rupees just to progress in the game. Additionally, in Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, he progresses through the game as though it's an adventure game, but he defies a number of common tropes. For example, he doesn't fight on his own, and instead hires bodyguards to fight for him. Additionally, because his money is also his lifebar, he has to weigh the costs and benefits of each purchase. I find this aspect of being a cowardly, greedy thief in the form of this silly-looking child-sized 35-year-old man to be really interesting. I mean, that doesn't excuse the tedium of having to grind for rupees because of him in Wind Waker, but I like him as a character, anyway.

Rosalina is pretty boring. I think her calmness is unsuited for a fun, colorful series like Mario and it just comes off unnecessary. She would of been better being an arc character but nope, since Nintendo transparently puts fanservice (almost all the time it's female characters) in their games for otakus she's here to stay.

I tried to like Rosalina, I really did. I can't come around to her. It's not her sole calmness being boring, but her design and how her personality is executed. I think of other calm, collected characters from other series with a sad past (Sailor Pluto is one, Shadow from SA2 is another, and countless others) and I find them awesome. Rosalina? Not at all. They love shoehorning her into games w/o expanding on her personality and her fans just goes off their admiration of her from "she's pretty" and "storybook".

Haha I remember this. I did like her in Sonic and Mario Olympic Games tho, she was sassy and showed more personality so that was interesting.

Another unpopular opinion since I'm coming back from an 8-month hiatus, uhh I genuinely like Daisy and think she's prettier than Peach and Rosalina.

I always figured Id like Daisy, but when I played Mario Strikers with CMV, I used Peach for like every match, and then decided that Id try Daisy, and I totally didnt like her at all : p

And I am also on the side of liking Rosalina : p

Really? I like Daisy's personality in Strikers a lot. Peach is also a bit cooler in Strikers than in the main games, though, so I can still kinda see where you're coming from.
