Unpopular Video Game Opinions

If a game gets ported to the C64 then it always has better music than the other ports 99% of the time. C64 definitely has my favourite soundchip from that time period.

I wouldn't say that's an unpopular opinion. Most people think the "console wars" started with Sega and Nintendo, totally oblivious to an earlier rivalry that is still debated today... Sinclair VS. Commodore. You've got droves of 40-year-olds still banging on about the C64's audio achievements. Very iconic stuff in the UK.

@The 3rd Wario Brother @Angler of Lake Asparagus I also would slightly chalk it up to the style of video game music that developed in the UK in particular. That distinctive "bubbly" sound. You could hear that sort of music on other consoles with various degrees of success.

Right. It was usually pretty easy to tell when a C64/Amiga/Spectrum musician or developer was involved with a GB/NES game. Yogi's Gold Rush is another perfect example...

Oh, well i didn't go to Europe till' becoming and big boy so the American nostalgia that i always knew of was Atari and NES so tought i was just weird.

Paul Joseph Waston has some good videos on that on youtube.

Even if you dont agree with his politics, I think hes made some good points about post modernism.

This one is a bit strange, but I think that some ¨illogical¨ gaming feautures, like advanced jumping techniques or floating platforms are actually not that weird when you think about it: what many people don't seem to realise is that most video games take place in a universe that is radically different from ¨our own¨ universe, and these can have physical laws that may seem illogical to us, but are completely normal -and on many occasions even helpful- for a video game character.

I love love LOVE Sonic Mania but i've been calling Sonic Advance the real Sonic 4 since S4EP1 so it feels weird seeing people call Mania the real 4. and mind you i enjoyed Mania more than Advance.

I prefer Kirby's Adventure to Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland - While Kirby's Nightmare in Dream is arguably the better game due to having improved controls, higher quality visuals with a gorgeous artstyle to boot and much more replay value thanks to Meta Knightmare, The original game had a charm to it that I felt Nightmare in Dreamland sorely lacked.
The artstyle for example

While the GBA Remake looks undoubtly gorgeous
I personally felt the original had a more colorful and cartoon like look which to me personally fits Kirby better then the more realistic looking visuals of Nightmare in Dreamland despite how simple looking it looks by comparsion.
The remake also lacked certain visual elements like the spinning tower in Butter Building for example which in a way loses a bit of it's charm as well. (The remake replaces it with a lame fog effect instead.)

Along with little things that add to it's charm like the little pictures in the hud (This is understandable though considering this is the GBA we're talking about here and the smaller screen size doesn't really lend well to stuff like that.)
Also, the music is just better in the NES original then the remake IMO.

This is in no way meant to say that Nightmare in Dreamland is a bad remake in any way though
As it's not at all, it's a wonderful remake of the game and I will admit that it does better then the original in plenty of areas (More replay value due to Meta Knightmare, better controls and physics, hats, etc) and I can truly see why people would prefer the remake overall and I still wholeheartly recommand playing it if you haven't. (The remake has a charm of it's own really.)

I just prefer Kirby's Adventure for personal reasons more then anything really. (And you can definitely say that this is just nitpicking more then anything.)
If you disagree with me on this and you prefer the remake over the original then that's cool
As the remake is also a great time.

Kirby's Adventure is one of my favourite games, and I'm by no means a Kirby fan. Hahah! The game had some gorgeous graphics for NES, being such a late release, and the cracking visuals and soundtrack combine to create this very warm, friendly atmosphere I get from certain old games and cartoons. The late areas in the game such as Orange Ocean and Rainbow Resort always fill me with warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feelings.

Nightmare in Dreamland, on the other hand, was cut from the cloth of later Kirby games. The early 8-bit Kirby titles feel distinct in the same way as the early 8-bit Metroid titles. They feel different from later/more popular entries, due to not having the established styles and conventions the series became known for.

The GameCube controller is good and all but i don't agree with people that think it is an absolutely amazing controller. The A button feels weird to press and the C stick leaves much to be desired.

Really? It looks just like the Genesis' D pad. I always thought it was too wobbly.
Though I can see it working better for 3d games, I suppose. Now I wanna compare them side by side, though.

And the Gamecube controller doesnt have the best D pad, sure. But I cant remember ever playing a game where the D pad was that needed, so it doesnt really bother me : p I know there are a few 2d games on the GC, but the vast majority of games are 3d, which work better with the control stick anyway.

I will say though, I remember when I first saw the Gamecube controller, I thought the layout was ridiculous : p Like I didnt think that big A button and tiny B button would be playable. But once you actually use it you realize its a non-issue : p Never had a problem with the C stick though. It feels not much different from an Xbox controller for me, just with a smaller top.
