Thoughts on Wario's Woods?

It is kind of odd since there were already some compositions in the NTSC version that sounded like music from the SNES version. For a while I just assumed that the PAL version just switched some themes around but no they've been totally replaced.

Eh, for me it depends on song, despite being more used the slower version I don't mind this here.

True. And despite the popular assumption, not all PAL games had slower tempo than NTSC, mostly just the earlier ones.

What mainly bothers me is when a soundtrack is native to PAL territory (European, Australian, etc.) but it is only circulated around the internet at a turbo-charged rate (faster than the composer originally wrote it or intended).

I talked about it before a couple of years ago, though nobody seemed to notice, but does anyone else find it odd how the Pal version of NES Wario's Woods had a couple of songs changed? Compare the two Round Game themes for instances:

Granted I actually really love the Pal songs, but I can't help but wonder why it happened.

Whoa... I never realised it until now, but Wario's Woods does have really good music. (I have never played Wario's Woods)

It's just so random, I mean with let's say, the US Sonic CD soundtrack I at least see a mindset behind the decision to create a new OST for a select part of the world (even if I disagree with it.), but with NES Wario's Woods it's just so out of the blue, pointless and even inconsistent, since a few songs like the Round Clear theme are still the same.

A really odd move indeed.

It's really not that crazy when you rule out the possibilities...

Perhaps the audio staff at R&D1 composed too many tracks for the game, yet they still wanted to use them. So rather than waste their work, they made them exclusive to the PAL version. Another possibility is there might have been a difference of opinion or disapproval among the staff.

I guess it's not that weird when you consider how common regional differences in games used to be back then, I guess Wario's Woods just strikes me as odd since it's a case where it's neither commonly documented, nor adressed by Nintendo themselves.

I have never heard of it before until now. Why is it called Wario Woods if the main character is Toad?

Wario's Woods... Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine... It is misleading to consumers, but not been able to play as the titular character isn't a bad thing. They are the biggest plot device and tie the game's scenario together. (Also, this was made when Wario's home studio was trying to get him off the ground and make him known)

Same reason Donkey Kong actually stars Mario, Metroid actually stars Samus, and The Legend of Zelda actually stars Link.

Nintendo just be weird like that sometimes.

You know what they should do?
Make a huge "weird SNES puzzle game spin-offs" compilation.
With Wario's Woods, Kirby's Avalanche, Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Tetris Attack, Yoshi's Cookie, maybe even throw Dr. Mario in there.
