I was looking up some stuff to help me make the choice between getting Mario Oddysey or LoZ:BotW first and i got accidentally spoiled about something in the ending of Mario Oddysey that i would have had a delight to see if i saw it first from playing the game and now i'm so salty about it.

I know New Donk City is obviously NYC but is it an homage to Big City in Donkey Kong 94? It does have Pauline and it does have the upper part of it in the tops of the buildings as a sort of sub city like in DK94. Or perhaps an in joke for SMB Super Show watchers. Maybe its just that simple and is NYC to fit the international theme.
