Well it doesn't work for everyone. I just found that my previous mindset didn't leave me being successful with people though it could work for others.
Personally I try to be tactful and truthful at the same time. I usually don't change how I speak to people unless it's an absolute last resort to get my point across. It's worked for me on the sites I've had better relations with but I got trampled on with those video game forums I tried joining. I think it also has to deal with the general mindset of the people on the site too.

When it comes to how people act it really depends on their mindset. Some people just can't handle certain things, opinions and criticism being the number 1 thing. Not really sure if this will work for anyone else but an easy philosophy I do is just not to care, makes it easier to just talk about the topics at hand while ignoring trouble makers.

That is very true. Sometimes people are just absolutely insane though regardless of how you word things.

I'll share an experience from a different vg forum: there was a would you rather thread that people were active in and people were phrasing the questions as "would you rather a or b" or just asking "a or b". I had participated with the latter format and someone actually yelled about how I had done the format "incorrectly," even though, as mentioned, there was no established format and this person hadn't been upset with the other people. I told them that I was just following the format of the thread and got threatened with a ban for just telling the person to chill out in that same response. I approached this person the same way I would with someone on this forum.

So long and short, some communities are just way worse than others, and it's worth doing a lot of lurking to catch the general feel of the forum and how they treat new people.

In my experience the worst community is Zelda, The people on those forums are so damn toxic that i almost got banned for saying OoT was my least favourite 3D Zelda. In the end i left the forum since the fanbase seemed to act like a bunch of angsty teens.

I have the opposite experience as you actually. I cant talk about how I like OoT without like 15-20 year old kids going on and on about how its "overrated" and all that jazz : p

There is a divide with LoZ fans and the games from the past and present. All the new kids to the series cant stand the fact that those of us from the 90s remember OoT fondly : p And haha, every time I have to hear them put down OoT but praise TP as if it were one of the greatest games ever made. Theres nothing about that game thats unique or exciting or original besides the wolf thing. Its not a bad game, but its literally like OoT 2.0 : p It just makes me think theyre biased towards the game they played when they grew up and cant stand that others dont agree with them : p

As someone whose first forum was a Zelda Forum, I can confirm this divide exists. OoT is my nostalgically favorite Zelda game, but my personal favorite is Windwaker. But yeah, there's a weird divide, and sometimes it gets really confusing about what the fans actually WANT.

Windwaker is a close second with me actually : p I like it a ton. Thats at least one thing most LoZ fans agree on. They all seem to like WW : p

CMV actually hates OoT a bunch, sadly : p We sometimes have debates about OoT : p Am glad that we can be friends despite not agreeing on a game, haha.

Yeah, the remake is definitely pretty, but I am way fond of those old N64 graphics. I really like them a ton actually, never understand why anyone would call the game ugly.

And haha, Ive actually really been wanting to play MM again, I havent played that one in years : p Need to get a copy of it someday.

I think there's something nice about old game graphics, like especially N64. Like sure, they ain't the best, but they remembering how interesting they were to me when I was young always just kinda makes me go "Yeah this is pretty great."
