  • Wait-- *is* my generation responsible for "yeet"? Ewwww...

What's a yeet? I'm usually up to date with internet terms, but I have no idea what it is. I could google it, I know, but still asking for sake of conversation.

Essentially, it's your warning that someone is imminently throwing something. Possibly invented by annoying cunts as a preventative measure against getting an ass-kicking for throwing shit at people-- but that's just me being cynical. And probably right

Not what I expected for its meaning, but I don't regret asking (I had a feeling it was going to be some weird, obscure sexual meaning considering the internet).
Me when I came back after 3 days: "Niggas try to be king but the Ace is back"

Speaking of Dr. Dre-- the name, I mean-- how many words can you think of with the "dr" spelling that you ACTUALLY pronounce as "dur" instead of "jur." It's pretty much the same as how no one on the planet can pronounce the name "Dwight" without making it sound like how Joan d'Arc. Everyone pronounces it as "d'White" whether they like it or not.

Try it for other words, it feels really weird.

Like. "Oh, I've just been signed up for the *dr*aft", or "would you like something to *dr*ink".

In other news, I find it neat that when rappers collab the way Dre & Snoop do in Still DRE, there's a real sense of camaraderie.

In other other news, my mother can never recognize the chords from Still Dre when I play them but I'd bet my bottom dollar that she'd recognize Gin & Juice within a few tenths of a second.
And to bother you once more:
Do you know what kind of echo is used in this track?

    https://youtu.be/4-YfMQLCwtY?list=PLD534088A4DFC2F28

Is it a single-channel echo simulation (adding shorter and softer notes in between the main ones on the same channel) or a legitimate two-channel echo? I think it's single-channel, but I can't really hear the differences between the two types, especially not when the music is quite fast.
    tahutoa
    tahutoa
Well, the lead is playing each note twice, with the 2nd note being a quieter one. However, behind that, there's also a certain kind of Triangle playing as well. That's the really soft thing you hear

Thanks for the information. I really like NES music, and your knowledge about it.
"Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time (...) Revealed in March 2003 (...) Released October 23rd, 2003" DAMN, they waited that long to reveal it? Those *kind, kind* bastards.
I wish we could import game unveiling policies like that into the new era (cough) mario odyssey zelda bah-tyoo* etc. (cough)
    tahutoa
    tahutoa
*bah-tyew (alt. spelling bah-tyoo) is the pronunciation my brother rechristened Breath of the Wild with for casual referral
Fun fact: the Prince (of Persia) is literally Sasuke
...and apparently also acts like him in Warrior Within (to my dismay).

...I just thought about a hypothetical scenario where someone dating me composed THAT, the version that you hear, for me, and my throat tightened up-- for like, 20 seconds, I felt like I needed to cry.
I’m quickly realizing that not only am I (what I like to call) a "desperate romantic"-- named as such for the album from which "Disco Divertimento" comes--, but I'm *also* that person who will cover their mouth and cry when someone asks them to marry them.

    I'm modest, but not humble.

Modest with an asterisk, because, at the same time, I'm never afraid to brag about the things I'm proud of (loved ones, cool stuff in games like Tak 2 or PMW, etc., etc.-- that could just be called praise, but believe me, if I have an investment in it, it's bragging) and the things I've *done* that I happen to be proud of are no exception. Like, you won't see me bragging about certain aspects of myself that may actually warrant it from another's perspective, but at the same time piling praise upon others. It's confusing.
I've just concocted a filter that works as the reverse for my WL4 Peaking Filter preset. This is good for when you want to make an instrument sound more like it came from Wario Land 4, if only for the sake of making the quality diff. less jarring, and as a bonus, tricking those not already in the know.
"Even more important than these technical specifications are the sound quality, ease of use, and the feel of any synth. These are more difficult to quantify and require musicians to actually experience the instrument in order to determine if it is right for their production needs." yes hello um what the fuck does this mean?

Do I need to pick up a bass guitar and play the shit before I can decide whether I can use it (in your shitty Reason 10)? Or does it just mean I need to spend some time with it before I use it, in which case no fuckin' shit.

Oh yeah, this class is meant for people who've never used MIDI anything before (in which case why the fuck are you using reason 10). I remember *I* was a dumbass in the beginning-- I didn't even understand to line up notes with the grid because I didn't know how tempo worked yet. It was literally ugly.

I mean maybe if you were just scoring something intended for real musicians to perform and no audio production involved, that's one thing, because a lot of amateurs who don't know the limitations of this instrument or that one will write crazy bunk that doesn't even match the instrument's range or sounds like trite when performed, but in this context where you're PRODUCING SEQUENCED MIDI with SAMPLES what the fuck indeed
@tahutoa the audio expert: Do you know how the sound that is used as the lead in this tune is called?

    https://youtu.be/8fVz_aTbyWY?list=PL1059BF37B1B0FE79

It can be heard in a lot of NES and other 8-bit games, and this penetrating, instantly regonisable sound gives me a huge nostalgia boost, even when it occurs in games that I haven't played. I assume it's a high-pitched, heavily modified 25% square wave, but I'm far from sure.
    tahutoa
    tahutoa
Yeah, it sounds like a 25% Pulse. It's got an extra 25% behind it, acting as an Echo Delay. Said echo seems to be either pitched up or down by about 1-4 cents-- or the timing that the echo is set to kick in at is enough to do it-- but that's what makes it sound so smooth, everything to do with the echo.
And yeah, after you sent me "Gift" a few months ago, and I heard the Square in that, I can tell you like that sound. Chances are, the reason why it triggers nostalgia even in games you haven't played, is because that effect was used in something you HAVE played.

((BTW, you don't call anything other than a 50% Pulse a Square, because if the duty cycle is anything other than 50%, it's no longer square-shaped. Yeah, it's called a Square Wave because it's a Square :p))
    Just a Wario Fan
    Just a Wario Fan
Haha, totally true what you said about me liking the square wave sound. I especially like it when used in combination with pitch-bending and vibrato, both of which are used in this track.
And I know that only the 50% block wave can be called a square wave, because if the signal is not in the ¨1¨ position for exactly half of the time, it's no longer square-shaped.
Big Bad Wolf: *tries to blow the house down once... twice... thrice...*
Stick Pig: *opens a hatch at the top of the door, offers wolf some "Lusterine" mouthwash*
Big Bad Wolf: *pauses a second, realizes what they're implying, slaps it away*
So, I was watching the 'Three Pigs' Merry Melody, and I was thinking to myself, whilst the flute pig & stick pig were dancing gaily, "man, there is no way that there wasn't at least one furry on this animation team." Or, at the very least, this cartoon made at least one furry out of someone. For some really odd the reason the two of them had this tag-team sensual energy to them and it confuses me. And the way they followed the Big Bad Wolf behind a rock with those looks on their faces felt like the beginning of a hentai or something. I'm not a full-on furry-- that's the jester's job-- but I won't deny that there's definitely something there.

Semi-related: there have been multiple things that I've seen in media that have made me uncomfortable solely because I can see right through them, and feel in my gut that somewhere out there, fetish is begetting fetish. Case in point: werewolves are #1 on my unorthodox attractions list, but ironically seeing examples of it or things that resemble it in media makes me the most squeamish.
...Speaking of werewolves-- and vampires-- in my old age I've come to see why those dern Twilight fanatics would go crazy over the latter-- NECKING, my nigga. I already know without experiencing it that it's a sensual-as-hell experience, and I for one would love a situation where I'd feel needed, to match my own neediness-- oh, well fuck, i mean if you *gotta* nom on my neck then i mean...
I *thought* I knew why they dug werewolves when I was younger... I didn't quite grasp the full implications there. In the time since then, I've begun to crave a big strong girl that could be my shining knight, know what'm sayin'? I want somebody to be my big spoon. PLUS, the fact that lycanthropy induces sex appeal at all times besides the amount spent in wolf mode is sexy in itself, fetish or not. And if you're me, then that means sex appeal at ALL times, know what'm sayin'?

Okay, I'm done being a huge fag for now.

I've never considered the werewolf dynamic but shitesticks do we have similar taste. Tall & toned snow wolf chick THAT'S THE SHIT knowhatemsayen™
Apparently there existed a king named "Pippin the Short." Oh, those wacky medieval title-givers
Underused relationship dynamic: the 'leader' type and the 'willing subordinate' type. One is a fiery sort, the charismatic one-- doesn't hesitate to push the other one around, perhaps even actively be a dick to them, but everything rolls off the subordinate's back-- nothing phases them within reason, but chances are if something does they'll call their partner out on it, optimally. They go along with whatever the 'leader' type says.

HOWEVER, unlike whichever anime onee-sama shit you're probably thinking of in response to this description, in this case it's the LEADER-type who's hopelessly in love with the MINION, not the other way around. They'll wait 'til no one's looking before even insinuating it, but their heart beats for their minion. Because, sometimes, the unstoppable force and the immovable object will *get along* because of their natures. Bonus points if the leader is small and the minion a tall.

We see this a good amount in platonic relationships-- MegaMind & Minion, Dedede & Escargoon, Perry & Doofenshmirtz when working together, definitely Candace & Stacey... uhh, Sonic & Tails (the Fleetway comics, specifically), and some others I've forgotten about, probably (oh yeah, King Julian and that koala guy)-- but I don't think oh no wait, Carl & Redhead Girl from the beginning of Up... yeah that's all I got for romantic relationships using the dynamic.

Someone give me examples if you can, because I think the idea of, say, a tyrannical, chatty, fiery-tempered director of state being head over heels for their stoic, collected, Alfred-like right hand, is cute as hell.

Varrick & Zhu Li from Legend of Korra (AKA the sequel to Avatar) absolutely fit that description. In fact they even get hitched near the end of the show.
I've always wondered how 'papa' came about. 'Mama' makes sense, because mother. But, apparently, the origin of 'papa' is Italian. Probably. Because "pope" is derived from "papa," apparently.

Mama mother matriarch, papa patriarch, father? Father is the real outlier here. And I just assume mama is derived from mammary and papa is derived from penis but you guess is as good as mine

"Mammy! Just look at me Mammy! Mammy!"
I decided to participate, naturally, especially since the jester was disappointed that the story seemed to have reached its end. And, hopefully, this new pivot I've taken Wario on will help take the narrative to some interesting places.

admittedly, i'm not that bad at narrative writing when i give enough of a shit to write in the details i picture in my head. i'm usually just too impatient for it. consistently

in this case it's still not the strongest, but that's because i'd subconsciously written it using more or less the same general syntax as everyone preceding me.
Dude, some of those posts in the 'Wario walks into a bar' thread were just plain lame. Thanks to Robin though, we derailed the thread from the initial 'every post a contained story' goal and started one continuous story. I was honestly surprised at how barebones and "jumpy" the first page was, after the second page spoiled me with its overarching narrative. I had jumped to stupidface's rowboat post, and with the exception of CMV's barely-disguised fetishism, was surprised at how solid this improv exercise was turning out to be.
In other news, really happy with how the sentence mixing turned out for this one song, because I managed to make it successfully sound like all the words in that section using only the 37 voice samples included in WL4 =:D
I have no idea if the post I made in the Introductions category is actually shit or w/e but I feel like a total fag regardless. I feel like I should leave it up though, it's still somewhat therapeutic, I think-- like cough medicine or smth. Plus, if the stuff I wrote in the tags helps anyone in the future, then that's all the better.
