  • God, it's so pathetic when people complain about games telling them to 'get gud' or what not. At the end of the day, a game is something you beat thanks to skill, you're not 'owed' the ending just for owning it. And if a game wants to point that out, well that's fine. Lighten up a bit.

I suspect half the whiny 'journalist' types would have a crying fit if they read the Donkey Kong 64 manual too:

    > Tough luck kid. I've been told to keep my mouth shut, as they want to keep all the good stuff for a money-making strategy guide. I'm sure some of it will appear on the newfangled 'internet' thing as well, so I suggest you take a look-see there. You could also ask your friends, assuming of course you've got any. If all else fails, you'll just have to play better.

I think "git gud" is a good thing. Like you said its what makes games what they are. "git gud" is however not an excuse for unfair games. As much as i hate journalists complaining about difficulty it did recently cross my mind that they probably have tight deadlines so struggling to beat a hard game in time must be a headache. BotW could definitely kick your ass if you aren't prepared but much of the game is optional and you can beat it whenever you what and gaming journalists seem to really enjoy that game. I may disagree with how they complain about games like Crash and Cuphead but i'm starting to think gaming journalism is fundamentally flawed and we shouldn't hate on them so much. You probably aren't targeting journalist in particular but ince they where mentioned i just wanted to add that. Everyone else has no excuse for complaining.
Okay, I'm gonna say it right now. If you're going to blame the recent crimes in America on 'video game violence', you're an idiot. Start solving real problems, not blaming gamers for everything.

That doesn’t seem to be as prevalent as it was in the past, in the era of Lieberman and Thompson. These days it’s people like Anita whatshername and her goons attacking games for not having enough ugly women and black people

True, the 'video games causing violence' narrative isn't as common, but it's still there at times, and it's still infuriating. And the 'video games are sexist/racist/whatever' crap from people like Sarkeesian is just as bad. It's the 'leftist' version of Jack Thompson and 'video games cause violence'.

I actually do kinda sympathise with the "well endowed" women in video games thing a bit. I mean I can see why some people are bothered by it. But I think people like that anita woman take it too far. I mean its not making men into extreme perverts. People like certain physical traits, I mean games and movies and tv shows usually cast or create attractive men, too.

I remember when I first played tales of symphonia, and saw the character Sheena. I thought I was going to hate her cuz of her oversized chest. She ended up being my favorite character, though. She was the only female character made in that way, so it wasnt that big of a deal. But at the same time, I wish she wasnt rememered so well because of her chest : / But that didnt stop her from being a great character.
God, it makes me a bit sad to see what's happened to some other fan site forums in recent years. TMK's one sadly makes even this place look like its booming by comparison.

I was thinking a Desert Island Discs format would be great, but this works better than stopping the interview for music selections.
You just need to refine your style and iron out a few interviewing faux pas. A great idea would be to watch the greats regularly, like Parkinson, and pay attention to their professionalism.

Yah, but DKL2 added Dungeon Danger and Krazy Koaster. Regardless of area names, I've played them side by side, and the layouts are not the same. Glimmer's Galleon is a massive pitch black maze, while Kleaver's Kiln involves Krockheads and firing at Kleaver with a cannon!

DKL2 is more a "Game Boy re-imagining" or extension. The word "port" is thrown around far too much, and it's very misleading. It implies they contain the exact same layout, which simply isn't true.

Either way, what did you think of the rest of the interview?

It was pretty informative, you betcha! I learned some new things about Grant.
You take the middle-ground approach, acting both casual and professional. It puts the conversation at ease, and makes it feel like a friendly powwow.
Of course, Grant is a very laid-back sort of bloke, so that's easy to pull off.
Anyone else feel Mario Odyssey reminds them of a Mario & Luigi or Paper Mario game? It's got the feel of one if you ask me, with the original settings, original characters, good use of nostalgic references, Bowser with more personality, etc. Quite a bit of humour too.
And I thought multiple carts were annoying in the PS1 era. Nope, the Amiga version of Rise of the Robots apparently came on 13 floppy discs, and you had to change disc multiple times to get past the intro cutscene.

I heard one of the mortal kombat games on amiga require to switch floppy for the fatalities...

Yikes. And they said the game was bad on the Super NES; at least that version only came in one cartridge...

Switching floppy disc for the fatalities in Mortal Kombat? LOL, that must certainly have gotten old fast!

And yeah, this is one of those games which just gets worse and worse the more you know about it.
Just interviewed Grant Kirkhope about Banjo, DK and Mario + Rabbids. Oh god, the memes that'll come from this article and video...
Am I the only one who kind of wants to see a celebrity play a game show for themself rather than a charity? It'd be very Wario like to say 'I'm playing to make myself even richer'!

It would be Wario-tier if the celebrtiy keeps the chairty money and make a poor excuse about it.
God, that quote from Game & Wario's 'Kickstarter' would be great for a Patreon page...

You should make a Patreon for the Wario cause! and dress up as Wario as a reward for 250$ donated.

I remember seeing someone say an has-been game developer asking for lots of money he probably doesn't need is a bit more on the nose than Nintendo realized
Well, I've finally changed it. Now guests can view and download post attachments here. Always found it annoying how XenForo didn't allow this by default.
So, how do you think we can get more Wario fans interested in this site? I'd say it's doing okay, but it needs a few more active people or so.

A new Wario game for starters.

Yeah, that would certainly help a lot. But as the Earthbound fanbase shows, you can still have a bit more activity even with all chances for an official sequel being dead and buried.
Just saw a video where Charles Martinet commented on the brutal final level in Mario Odyssey in character. Interesting experience, though I'm not sure I'd stay sane in the same situation.
Hopefully 2018 will be the year we get a new Wario game. Any new Wario game.
